Abstract:
This article briefly describes the preparation of Ti-Co and Zr-Co NEG alloys with the chemical composition Ti700+x+Co297-x+(Sm+Gd)3 and Zr700+x+Co297-x+(Sm+Gd)3, where X=0, 40, 80, 120 in steps. These are made using a traditional solid-state reaction method and activated at a temperature of 1000°C. These are analyzed with X-ray Diffraction (XRD) for structural analysis, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) for morphological and elemental concentration analysis, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for micro-structural and average particle size analysis, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG/DTG), and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) for gas absorption or desorption characteristics studies. The main objective of this research is to investigate the activation process and the gas absorption or desorption (sorption) investigations of the Samarium (Sm) and Gadolinium (Gd) substituting rare-earth components in Ti-Co and Zr-Co NEG alloys.
